Sculptra® Treatment

SCULPTRA®  is a colourless liquid injectable biostimulator made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It has a liquid consistency and is injected underneath the skin. Once injected, SCUPLTRA® incorporates into the tissues and stimulates your body’s natural production of collagen. The effects of SCULPTRA® happens gradually over time, this is because the treatment relies on the length of time it takes for the body to form new collagen.

Due to the aging process, environmental stressors, and our genetic predisposition, we suffer from loss of collagen at a rate of about 1% annually after the age of 20. Loss of collagen leads to thinning of the skin which results in the formation of wrinkles and folds. Collagen is a fibrous protein in the deep dermal layer that gives our skin structural support and helps to maintain shape, moisture, and elasticity of the skin.

Once injected in the face, it stimulates the natural growth of new collagen. This leads to restoration of facial volume over time and a dramatic improvement of the skin texture. Results are natural and become noticeable after 2-4 sessions (based on individual concerns).

FAQ

What is SCUPLTRA® ?2024-05-27T12:20:40+00:00

SCULPTRA®  is a colourless liquid injectable biostimulator made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It has a liquid consistency and is injected underneath the skin. Once injected, SCUPLTRA® incorporates into the tissues and stimulates your body’s natural production of collagen. The effects of SCULPTRA® happens gradually over time since it takes time for your body over time.

How does SCUPLTRA® work?2024-05-27T12:21:20+00:00

Is there any downtime with SCUPLTRA®?2024-05-27T12:22:31+00:00

You can expect to have mild soreness and swelling at the injection sites for about 1 week until the SCUPLTRA® incorporates into the tissues, Bruising can sometimes occur.

When can I expect to see result?2024-05-28T14:10:18+00:00

Results can typically be seen within a month after treatment. These results will continue to build as new collagen can take up to 6 months to form.

What should I do after my treatment?2024-05-28T14:10:52+00:00

Follow the 5-5-5 guide: Massage the injected area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day for 5 days. If you had SCULPTRA® in the neck, massage one side of the neck at a time, and massage in an upward direction as advised by your practitioner.

What can I do if I Bruise?2024-05-28T14:11:37+00:00

Whenever a needle is used to pierce the skin, there is a risk it will injure a blood vessel which can bleed into the skin, causing a bruise –

  • Remember we do get bruises in life for all sorts of reasons, and they always heal, usually within 10 days.
  • There are some over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements that slow the time your blood takes to clot and therefore make bruising more likely, these include: Alcohol, vitamins A, C and E, fish oils, garlic, St. John’s Wort, ibuprofen and aspirin (this list is not exhaustive). Our doctor will advise and possibly recommend you avoid taking them for 7 days before the procedure. Alcohol should be avoided the day before and after
  • Most (but not all) bruises can be covered by make-up – best to wait 12hrs after treatment.
  • After 48 hours, applying a warm compress two or three times a day, may help to promote blood flow to clear the bruise in less time.
  • There are some herbal and homeopathic remedies that claim to help relieve the pain, swelling, or discolouration of bruises. These treatments have not been proven to be effective by scientific testing, but patients report them to be helpful, such as Arnica (cream, gel or tablet form).
  • If you are worried the bruise is excessive, or it is associated with heat, extreme swelling or pain (beyond the usual associated with bruises you may have experienced in the past), contact us for a consultation with our doctor
  • If your bruising is associated with a paleness or looks mottled in any way, contact us for an urgent assessment with our doctor, or present to your nearest hospital if out of office hours

Aftercare Advice

  • Use a cold pack to reduce swelling and redness on the injection site.
  • Avoid physical strenuous exercise on the first day after treatment
  • Avoid direct sun exposure
  • Avoid intense heat (such as the sauna, steam bath)

  • Avoid further cosmetic therapies for the first 2 weeks after treatment
  • Avoid massaging the injection site

  • Avoid intake of significant amounts of alcohol after treatment
  • Avoid application of make-up for at least 12 hours post-procedure
  • Stay well hydrated
